Should teachers be armed?
Recently there has been some talk about whether teachers should have guns at school. Now some people may feel safer with an adult around them having a gun to protect them or in an event of a school shooting so as to not be defenseless. Others argue that teachers having guns could bring a lot of conflicts like the teacher pointing it towards the students or a student getting a hold of it. Now, these are some reasons why teachers should not be armed.
First off, teachers shouldn’t be equipped with guns because it could cause several problems. For example, how does anyone know what a teacher is capable of? We don’t know what could snap inside of a person; teachers are humans too. They have their own emotional and mental problems. Now why would a student want to be in a crossfire gun fight between a teacher and a shooter? What if a student gets a hold of the gun? Now I know these are a lot of “what if” questions, just as there is always, but there’s a lot more “what if’s” in this topic that doesn’t reassure anyone to believe it would be a good idea for teachers to carry guns.
Now some people will disagree and say it’s better, safer, etc. for teachers to have guns. People have said they’ll make the teachers take all sorts of tests to make sure that nothing will go wrong. Those tests have flaws, critics say that 70% of polygraphs are correct, but even then, some criminals, shooters, anyone were, per say, “normal” but sometimes someone says the wrong thing or flips the wrong switch to trigger that person. So who is to say that wouldn’t happen with a teacher? Sometimes a test can’t prove much or could even be wrong with that 30% chance that it won’t work, so it isn’t a way to really know if you give someone a gun, a weapon made to kill, may I add, they won’t use it in a way other than to protect people.
In order to try and resolve these issues happening around the U.S. I say we get rid of guns altogether. We wouldn’t be having all of these school shootings and shootings in general if it wasn’t so easy to get a gun. If people just didn’t have easy access to this deadly weapon, things could change, but no, people want to solve a gun problem by giving people more guns? Last time I checked you don’t add fuel to the fire to stop it.
